14-YEAR-OLD CHARGED WITH STARTING RUTHERFORD FIRE
A 14-year-old boy has been charged with starting a fire at Rutherford yesterday.
About 1.15pm a fire was discovered in vegetation near a tennis club on the New England Highway.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but not before it burned 200 square metres around the club including established trees and fencing.
Members of the public saw the teen running through traffic and he was arrested a short time later at his home.
He was due to face court today.
Police have also arrested an 11-year-old boy over two bushfires in Port Stephens last week.

What will they get for that? ??? A slap in the hand and sent back home. Naughty boy/girl go home to mummy and daddy?
I feel that we should put chackles around the ankles of the people, all people young and old who get a high at lighting these fires. To made to replant all trees and also help rebuild the shed lost , also help the vet to the animals injured . All this should be made by the parents too so they can see that if you dont supervisor your child this is what can happen . I also say that I dont care how you are the punishment should be , so if the media or the court should have any feeling do it . the backing from the people in the area will ., cause the other is not a option cause me as person the law is getting to soft. sorry ut lets stnd up and make these people accountable. thank you Albert.
